Bridges 2 Better is an innovative and impactful Arts Organization that addresses the critical issues of drug addiction and mental health within our community.
Our Mission is to provide a creative approach centering the arts to support individuals with addiction and mental health challenges on their path to recovery and wellness.
Our Vision is to advance well-being and enhance recovery outcomes by fostering creativity and self-expression through various artistic disciplines.

Opportunity
Bridges 2 Better provides a promising approach to addressing drug addiction and mental health challenges in our community. By integrating art therapy and creative expression in partnership with traditional and alternative treatment methods and providers, we offer individuals a unique and effective pathway to recovery and well-being.

Expressive Art Classes - Multi-disciplinary workshops to encourage self-discovery, and self-expression and promote social and emotional well-being.

Community Art Events - Exhibitions and performances to showcase participants' work, raise awareness, and reduce stigma surrounding addiction and mental health.

Peer Support Groups - Facilitated groups where participants discuss a body of artistic expression as an impetus to share their experiences and offer mutual support.

Guest Artist Forums - Creatives share their mental health and/or substance use journeys, insights, and art with participants.

Our Team

Tracey Johnson
Tracey Johnson is a visual artist working with epoxy resin and mixed media. She holds a BA in Political Science from The Ohio State University and brings over 18 years of leadership experience, including serving as Manager of the Workforce Development Department for Ohio’s largest Head Start agency, where she led adult literacy and job readiness programs. Guided by a personal connection to the challenges and resilience found in mental health and substance use recovery, she directed a women’s recovery program in partnership with the YWCA. Currently pursuing certification in therapeutic art facilitation, Tracey blends creative practice and restorative insight to support community healing.

Stephanie R. Bridges
Stephanie R. Bridges has a BS in Secondary English Education from The Ohio State University and is a Certified Peer Recovery Supporter through the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. An accomplished literary artist, she has authored multiple books and supported others through writing, editing, and publishing their manuscripts. She has successfully facilitated publishing cohorts, hosted literary events, and curated visual art installations. With lived experience in the mental health and substance use recovery community and a deep commitment to empowerment through the arts, Stephanie draws on her experience and education to assist others with artistic and personal development.

Afia Chrappah, MSW
Afia Chrappah has a Master’s in Social Work from The Ohio State University and is a Practicing Licensed Therapist with over ten years of experience spanning education, mental health, and technology. She has worked extensively in Ohio’s school systems and rural communities as an advocate, therapist, and school social worker, while also earning multiple certifications in project management, data analytics, and IT. Combining her expertise in social work and technology, Afia now works in the telehealth space, delivering counseling services to those seeking mental health support. Afia is also a children’s book author, utilizing creative storytelling to empower communities.

Lorena Richtarsic
Lorena Richtarsic brings over 17 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, with a strong focus on mental health, developmental and physical disabilities. She has an Associate's degree in Applied Business Marketing from Strayer University, along with advanced public relations training, earning her certification as a Contingent Workforce Professional. Lorena’s work centers on building capacity, developing programs, volunteer coordination and engaging communities through initiatives like Neighbors Helping Neighbors. Her ongoing professional development in nonprofit leadership, accessibility, and mental health reflects her commitment to creating inclusive, lasting impact across diverse communities.

Helena dameron, M.Ed.
Helena Dameron is the Director of Program Operations at the Charleys Kids Foundation, where she leads national efforts to fund and support organizations aligned with the foundation’s mission to uplift children through education, mentorship, and wellness. With a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from The Ohio State University, Helena brings a strategic and equity-driven lens to her philanthropic work. Her extensive background in public education, including over 20 years in curriculum leadership and literacy development, informs her commitment to expanding access and opportunity for youth across the country.
